James L. Rodríguez is Dean of Extended Education and Global Outreach and Special Assistant to the President for External Affairs at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB).  Rodríguez previously served as Interim Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and as Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Education respectively at CSUB.  Prior to his appointment at CSUB, Rodríguez was a professor of Child and Adolescent Studies at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) where he has also held a number of administrative and leadership positions. Rodríguez has also held a tenured faculty appointment in the College of Education at San Diego State University where he collaboratively developed and led innovative partnerships.  He has also held appointments as a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Psychology at Pomona College and at the Policy Evaluation and Research Center at Educational Testing Service.

Rodríguez earned his BA in Psychology from Pomona College, and PhD in Child and Adolescent Development from Stanford University.  He has published widely on the psychological development and education of ethnic minority populations in the United States, with an emphasis on immigrant children and families and English learners.  Rodríguez has served on various editorial boards and has held professional leadership roles including the Founding and Steering Committees of the Latinx Caucus of the Society for Research in Child Development, for which he served as the inaugural Chair. He has been awarded numerous awards and fellowships including a Ford Foundation/National Research Council Predoctoral Fellowship, a James Irvine Foundation Dissertation Fellowship, a Pomona College Scholar, and a multi-year National Hispanic Scholar.
