Dr. Walter Diaz is the vice president of student affairs at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic, CT. In his role as vice president of Student Affairs, he oversees 17 departments providing direct services to over 5000 students. Walter has more than 30 years of experience in higher education/student services. During this time, he has held positions at Tunxis Community-Technical College; Dartmouth College, Thayer School of Engineering; SUNY Institute of Technology; and the University of Connecticut. Walter has served on the board of NASPA Region I as Member-at-Large and on the Region I Latinx/o/a Knowledge Community (LKC) Leadership team. He also served on the Development and Fundraising Committee for NASPA’s National LKC and has served as a faculty and committee member for NASPA’s inaugural leadership institute (Escaleras). Walter has served as a Fellow with the New Leadership Academy sponsored by the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education and the National Center for Institutional Diversity at the University of Michigan. He as also been recognized by NASPA as a Pillar of the Profession, Outstanding Senior Student Affairs Officer by the LKC; awarded the Region I-Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Award, and the NASPA Region 1, Network of Educational, Equity, and Ethnic Diversity (NEEED) Award. Walter received a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from Central Connecticut State University, a Masters in Higher Education Administration from the University of Connecticut, and a Doctorate degree from Johnson & Wales University in Higher Education Administration.
